Hannah's daily gubbins

Ladies and Gentlemen of the internet, enjoy my blog. If I could offer you only one tip for future happiness, dailygubbins would be it. The long-term benefits of reading my blog have been proved by doctors (ie, me), whereas the rest of my advice has no basis more reliable than my own meandering experience. I will commence this advice now...

Happy New Year!

So, 2007. Thought I'd have squeezed in a final blog entry for 2006 but have been too busy these last few days entertaining, got the house to myself again now so time to catch up on everything. New Year wasn't too bad this year, we ended up staying in and having a nice dinner, champagne, vodka jelly and that sort of thing, and didn't get to bed til around 5am according to the times of the photos! Ended up extending the visit until today in an attempt to avoid the usual January 1st blues, everyone seems to have lots of plans and things to do this year so we shall have to see what happens.

The cold that I had last time has "gone onto my chest" and so I am taking my own advice (ie FOIAV - a medical acronym that basically means go away because antibiotics won't work) and having lots of hot baths and steamy showers to try and loosen everything. Bought some cough mixture as well but not tried it yet, don't feel unwell in myself luckily, but sound as if I have a 60-a-day habit which is not nice. Not coughing up blood any more though, which is obviously good.

Today I've been to the bottle bank to get rid of the evidence from the weekend, as would be expected for this week, the bottle bank at the gym was full so I had to go to Tesco. Gave the gym a miss despite my good intentions, as didn't think my chest could cope with running. May have a sauna later in the week actually, that might help. There was a queue at the Tesco bottle bank which was a pain, caused mainly by well-meaning parents allowing their small (slow) children to put the bottles in which took about 4 times as long as it would have otherwise done, but I just stood there and let them, because I'm nice like that. Then went to Tesco, got a few bits but not a lot as still got some gourmet leftovers from the weekend (for "gourmet", read home-cooked), but thought I ought to get some stuff like mushroom ketchup which apparently is good for putting in pies and casseroles.

Wanted as well to put a photo of my friend Russ playing with his chopper, he had it out most of the weekend despite being told to put it away. Even though he kept bashing it into walls (and also into my head a couple of times) when drunk, it seems to have survived intact. You can't really get an accurate idea of size from the picture, but I measured it at about 7 inches long, and it's a nice red colour. He can get it up for only about five minutes at a time before it loses energy and it sinks to the ground, then after about 20 minutes recovery time, it's ready to rise again. I am of course referring to the indoor remote-control helicopter which I bought for him for Christmas. Never seen a present give anybody such enjoyment! If you're stuck for present ideas for a bloke, you can't go wrong with this!

I haven't forgotten about my end of year awards that I mentioned a while back, I'll think of something along these lines later in the week but now really need to go and soak in a nice hot bath. Hope you all had a great New Year and are looking forward to a fantastic 2007!

Sounds like Hannah's NYE went with a bang!

I wasn't able to keep things up for more than 5 or 6 minutes unfortunately, however hard I tried. It would always go up in the air and then point to the earth and crash down, exhausted, and my wrists were quiet tired with all that tugging.

I got a remote controlled plane for Christmas, of course.
